Sujaya Sunkara (she/they) is a multi-faceted singer, storyteller, and artist born in Boston, MA, and raised in Cincinnati, OH. She is represented by DGRW. Sujaya gained their love for music and art early in life with exposure to Bollywood movies and music all thanks to her supportive and beautiful family.
Sujaya grew up singing Hindi music in the car with her dad, putting on dance recitals in the living room, and writing very bad 10-minute plays on the family desktop. Somehow, their childhood was a melting pot of musical theatre before the concept was even introduced to her.
Sujaya values equity, empathy, and inclusion in her art form, and brings that part of herself into every room they enter. She sees theatre as a means to change our lives, and wants all theatre to become something everyone can access and learn from. They have found their most rewarding theatrical experiences to be those in which she has made an audience not only feel something, but truly think and reflect about what it is they just observed.
Of course, beyond theatre, Sujaya is in fact a real, live human being! When not performing, you can find them FaceTiming their dog Turk, drinking a Diet Coke, going to Trader Joes, or logging her latest watch on Letterboxd. Definitely an emphasis on the Diet Coke though.
